1. ) Substance dependent-the compulsive use of a substance that often results in tolerance/withdrawl.
ex.] Lawrence drank two to three 32oz of Vodka everyday. His body adjusted to the Vodka after a while, so he had to drink more and more to achieve a 'high'.
2.) Codependent-dependent on someone else's behavior/actions that governs another persons emotions.
ex.] Wendy, Lawrences employee who tended to his everyneed, was codependent on him. Lawrence's actions and behavior effected Wendy and her emotions. If Lawrence was in a bad mood, so way she. She knew she was tending to a dying alcoholic who was in denial about his life, but she could not get herself out of the situation.
3.) Trigger- a traumatic event/time is ones life that triggers a pattern of abuse (the underlying reason)
ex.] Lawrence's stepfather beat his mother and him.
He and his wife divorced after 17months.
Lawrence got testicular cancer and stopped going to doctors appointments.
4.) Withdraw-group of symptoms that can occur upon the abrupt disconuation/seperation or a decrease in dosage of the intake of medications, recreational drugs, and alchohol.
ex.] Lawrence went to rehab, but after a while he was asked to leave because he wasnt cooperating. He was sober for about three weeks when he returned home, he then went back to his old habits, and then passed away. The show didnt tell us the group of symptoms that occured i the little time he was in rehab.
5.) Tolerance- the bodies ability to adjust so that larger doses are required to achieve the same effect.
ex.] Lawrence went from just having a drink every once in a while, to his body craving about a liter and a half of vodka everyday.
